Retail Revival Supports a Wider Recovery in the U.K. Economy

Footfall at the country’s shopping locations rose 0.8pc in July compared to a year earlier, an acceleration on the 0.1pc uptick in June.

The data from the British Retail Consortium and Springboard is yet more evidence that the heatwave in Britain in July boosted retailers and the economy.

Further figures from the BRC show that the amount of empty shops in the country has also fallen. The town centre vacancy rate has fallen from a record 11.9pc in April to 11.1pc in July.

In contrast, internet retailers endured a slowdown in July, with month-on-month online sales falling for the first time ever between June and July.
