Asian Equities Open the Week Mixed

Asian equities kicked off trade on Monday mixed as investors monitored earnings reports, but record highs in the U.S. last week boosted sentiment.

On Wall Street, the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 both closed at record highs on Friday following tech third-quarter earnings reports. Among big movers, Microsoft rallied 10 percent after posting earnings of 61 cents per share on $21.73 billion on revenue that beat estimates.

Japan’s benchmark index extended losses following a nearly 1 percent decline on Friday as investors concentrated on first-quarter earnings results from heavyweights Canon and Fanuc.
