Asian Equities Mixed after Chinese Property Concerns

Asian equity markets started the week mixed despite Friday’s positive lead from Wall Street as concerns rose about a slowdown in China’s real estate market.

U.S. stocks halted a two-day losing streak on Friday, but the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 still ended lower for the week. A U.S. consumer sentiment index slipped to 81.8 in May, according to a preliminary reading, down from 84.1 in the previous month.

Escalating tensions between China and Vietnam remain in focus after anti-Chinese riots in major Vietnamese cities killed two people last week. China has deployed chartered planes and boats to evacuate citizens while many Taiwanese and Hong Kong factories were damaged.
