Japan Current Account Surplus Falls Sharply

Japan logged a current account surplus of 116.4 billion yen ($1.14 billion) in March, data on Monday showed, well below analyst expectations for a 305 billion yen surplus in a Reuters poll.

A weaker yen has pushed up the cost of imports, while fuel imports have shot up since Japan abandoned nuclear power following the Fukushima disaster three years ago.

The surplus was Japan’s second monthly surplus in row but was down from 612.7 billion in February.
